Equipment
Every team and competitor in the X-Marathon should carry mandatory equipment. Apart from the all-time mandatory equipment, there are items required only on specific stages (e.g., kayak equipment is required only on the kayaking stage).
Mandatory equipment
MINI (4h course):
Compulsory equipment to be always carried:
- First aid kit: 2 crepe (snake) bandages, minimum 5 cm width, 1 triangular bandage, and 2 non-stick wound dressing pads per team.
- Mobile phone - per team.
- Water - minimum total of 0.5 litre at the start of each leg - per person.
- The timing tag and race bib are locked on your wrist (provided by organisers) per person.
MOUNTAIN BIKE LEG COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT
- Mountain bike or commuter bike with race bib attached at the front (bikes are available for hire during online registration) - per person.
- Helmet (also available for hire with your bike) - per person.
KAYAKING LEG COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT
- PFD (provided by race organisers or can use your own) - per person.
- Double Kayak (provided by organisers, or you can use your own) - per team.
- Double-ended paddles (provided by race organisers, or you can use your own) - per person.
RECOMMENDED ITEMS
- Waterproof pouch for the race information.
- Compass (navigation is moderate but might be handy). Compass hire and sale are available for the event during online registration only.
- Map board for the bike. Map board hire and sale are available during online registration.
- Off-road running shoes.
- Repair kit of the mtb legs. Spare tubes/gas, pump, chain link, chain breaker, multitool.
- Nutrition for the entire event- some snacks and gels and electrolytes.
- If you are using your paddles and PFDs, a bag will be needed to pack them up after the kayaking stage.
- Box/bag to place your MTB gear.
HALF course (12h course):
Compulsory equipment to be always carried:
- First aid kit: 2 crepe (snake) bandages, minimum 5 cm width, 1 triangular bandage, and 2 non-stick wound dressing pads per team.
- Mobile phone in a waterproof bag- per team. It will be sealed before the race starts.
- Head torch for 6 hours.
- Water - minimum total of 0.5 litre at the start of each leg - per person.
- The timing tag and race bib are locked on your wrist (provided by organisers) per person.
- Tracker (provided by race organisers) - per team.
- Emergency blanket – per person.
- Waterproof jacket and pants- per person.
- Thermal top per person.
- Whistle- per person.
- Compass- per person.
MOUNTAIN BIKE LEG COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT
- Mountain bike or commuter bike with race bib attached (bikes are available for hire during online registration) - per person.
- Helmet (also available for hire with your bike) - per person.
- Repair kit.
- Rear red light
- Front light.
KAYAKING LEG COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT
- PFD (provided by race organisers or can use your own) - per person.
- Double sit-on-top Kayak (provided by organisers) - per team.
- Double-ended paddles (provided by race organisers, or you can use your own) - per person.
RECOMMENDED ITEMS
- Waterproof pouch for the race information.
- Gaiters.
- Full-length pants for trekking.
- Map board for the bike. Map board hire and sale are available during online registration.
- Off-road running shoes.
- Nutrition for the entire event- some snacks and gels, and electrolytes.
- Warm paddling gear includes Frogskin, neoprene bottoms and jackets, neoprene socks, a beanie (you will be given a buff), and gloves.
- In case of cold weather (below 7 degrees at night), additional items (such as gloves, beanies, thermal pants, and fleece tops) could be added to the all-time compulsory gear list.
LOGISTICS
1 Gearbox or bag (maximum 25 kg) to transport your gear to one of the transition areas.
1 Gearbox or bag to put your paddling gear after the paddle leg.
If you’re using your paddles, you will need arrangements to pack up your paddles and PFDs for transportation.

LOGISTICS
2 Gearboxs or bags (maximum 25 kg) to transport your gear to the transition areas.
In cold weather (below 7 degrees at night), additional items could be added to the all-time compulsory gear list (such as gloves, beanies, thermal pants, and fleece tops). The decision will be made Friday night. Please have these items ready.
Kayaking gear bag to fit all your other kayaking gear after the paddle leg (you will not need to transport it during the race).
FAQ:
What to put into the GEARBOX:
- Extra warm gear.
- Gear for the race is based on a logistics matrix published ten days before the event.
- Sunglasses – pp.
- Extra highly nutritious food, arrangements to boil water (e.g., jet boil, gas camping stove).
Do we need bike boxes:
No, there will be a bike drop. You will bring bikes yourself to a designated point before the race, located approximately 25 minutes one-way drive from the HQ.
